Who will be our next commitment?

  • Who do you guys think will be next to pull the trigger and commit to us?

I'm hoping that we can get a defensive player committed soon.

I know it's still early, but we have the second fewest commitments out of anybody in the SEC and that blows my mind considering we have had back to back winning seasons.

Definitely take a break SMD!! Come back in early June once camps get going and you will have a much better idea. If you read this board and others you have a pretty good idea of who our top targets are at different positions. For example: At QB we like Sandberg, Kincaide, Jennings, Buchanan, Staver etc all of whom are Elite 11 QB participants. Who do you take right now? Or would you rather see them all at MSU's camp and then decide? I think we are on a lot of really good kids with limited spots so we are building relationships and then will ultimately make the call at summer camp after we see some of the kids again in person. Same goes for the WR position. We have way more interest in MSU at the WR position from talented kids than we have spots for. At some point we will have to narrow it down and pick which ones we really want to go hard after.

MSU is not in a position to have to reach to take kids right now. Remember signing day is almost a year away. Kids will go through summer camp and some will wait until after their season to decide like Richie Brown, AJ Jefferson, Benequiz Brown etc. You just have to be patient and most importantly know we are on a lot of outstanding kids and will have it narrowed down to the ones we really want in the next few months. Also, a lot of kids will be impressed with our season and want to jump on board as well. You have to leave room for those kind of kids and not fill up in March when you could land some elite kids that LSU, Bama, Florida etc just didn't have room for.

Will be in Destin July 1-5 and am looking forward to it.

I guess the fact that I see Ole Miss coming off of a 2-10 season and getting 4 star recruits to commit just gets under my skin a little.

This is the time Ole Miss needs to push for commits. After they see the dumpster fire of a season they have kids will be trying to jump off that ship. If they don't gets some kids early they will struggle to get many. MSU on the other hand has the benefit of being picky and will benefit even greater coming off an 8-4 or 9-3 type season. This is a long race not a sprint. OM will get a few kids just because they are an SEC school that can offer immediate PT. You can't get caught up in stars. You have to see if they are meeting their needs at the end of the day.

For example, they signed about 3 kids 5'9 175 lbs RB last year. Their first 2 RB commits will be about the same size not to mention Kailo Moore. How many 5'9 or 5'10 175 lbs RB do you need? Oversigning at a position will cost them big timie because all those kids can't play. If you oversign anywhere it should be on the OL and DL.

  • Paul, do you feel we have recruits with offers from us who might want to commit but are being told to wait by our staff?

What guys would we take a commit at this moment from? Jake Thomas, Mix, Shumpert?

  • Great point a lot of these players with stars are from 5'7" to 5'10" great for track team but hard to find spots for those guys in SEC lineups to short for safety, cb, and wr don't buy into stars

I bet we might well take a couple of those guys early, and a top QB or maybe two who have expressed noteworthy interest.
