  • We are NOT 3rd in SEC wins in Stansbury's tenure or the last 10 years- we are 4th. Kentucky, Florida, and Tennessee are 1, 2, and 3....we are 4th...Bama comes in 5th a few games behind us

Stansbury did some really good things at Mississippi State. But too many of you want to only see the first 7 years and not the last 7. In the last 7 years, we only have 2 NCAA Tourney appearances. We have 1 NCAA Tourney win in the last 7 years. ONE in 7 years. Hardly anything scaring away potential coaches due to inflated expectations. 3 NIT's and 2 misses all together in the last 7. Owning the state sure hasnt gotten us very far.

No matter who we hire- a change had to be made. We cant let the players cuss our coach, refuse to listen, refuse to workout, fight in the stands on national TV, etc. And it wasnt just Sidney- these type things have been going on for awhile.

Nobody likes the position we are in right now- but we damn sure need to figure out how to fix it the best way we can.

  • Wrong - Tennessee was ahead of us last year - but fell behind this year.

Well whether it was the right or wrong thing to have happen, Stansbury is gone. As much as it galls many of us, we can only hope that in the end you and the other Stansbury haters are proven correct. But if this hire turns out to be Lebo-, Horn- or Pelfrey-esque, then there is going to be an unhappy fan base, once again.

  • uhhhhhhh

Tennessee finished 2nd in the SEC this season- they didnt do any falling- they widened the gap

    Coach34

  • Their regular season record was 19-15. They may have caught up to us with the NIT games, but before the end of regular season they were behind us.

And didn't UF finish second in the SEC? With Vandy as 3rd. Tennessee was in the NIT same as we were.

  • LADIES. Nobody cares. It doesn't matter if we were 3rd or 4th.

I think he said "SEC wins". Tennessee was the 2 seed in the SEC Tourney

Don't confuse Coach34. He has been living for this to happen for 8 or 9 years and now it has happened he is squirming because he and his naive followers are seeing we haven't attracted all those great coaches we should attract. Any coach in his right mind can see that there has been success at MSU and whether he wants to try and bring it to the last 7 years or not, Stansbury has shown that someone can win here. Don't think for a minute that other coaches nationally aren't scratching their heads wondering why we are cutting all ties with this staff. We may still get an outstanding coach but if we don't get one who can recruit this area then we have no chance. Don't think for a minute that all these McDonald All-Americans are going to rush to Starkville no matter who we get as a new coach but it is pretty clear the McDonald All-American in Mississippi this year was coming with our old staff and is hinting he won't with a new one. Facts are facts and as much as coach wants to scream about X&0's, nobody is going to win in this league without players and if this debacle continues, we aren't going to have many top players to play with. All the Stans haters love to say he couldn't handle players but it is odd that Hood and Moultrie think differently. I laugh when folks say folks like Buck6, myself, and others don't won't to win. Heck, see how many fans buy those tickets for basketball next year if this hire is screwed up. so far, until proven differently, it is screwed up.

  • The bottom line is that we aren't as attractive as some thought we were. To coaches, you measure attractiveness in salary, facilities, administrative support, and fan support.
Sometimes the roster plays a part, but a good coach knows he can rebuild a team in short order, particularly in basketball. Plus while we're extremely short-handed at the 1 and the 5, we do have a very nice recruiting class that can be solidified. Any players with a reputation for troublemaking aren't even on campus anymore. On top of that, do you really want a coach who only wants to step into a school with an already set lineup?

We have the monies to put the right coach in the top 15 of salaries nationwide, so that shouldn't be an issue (and if it is, someone needs to be corrected in short order).
It's not facilities. The Hump's not spectacular, but it's solid, and the Mize Pavilion is top notch.
Administrative support may be an issue. Whomever comes in knows that our AD forced out the winningest coach in school history after a 20+ win season.
Fan support is definitely an issue. We didn't fully support this year's squad when we were in the Top 25, and we certainly are responsible for forcing the issue on Stansbury.

I'm still holding out hope for a rabbit from the hat, but at the moment we have met the enemy, and he is us.

  • How many coaching vacancies are there with a full roster of players of D1 caliber and high expectations of making it deep in the tourny?

New coaches are kinda like horse trainers they aren't needed until a problem develops.

Well anyway this discussion has made 34's day, he was kinda at a void without a soapbox to get on, I understand they are after his butt pretty good over on sixpack. But I might add that is heresay because of the likes of him I don't go there.
