In answer to your question, msusox, my best guesses for the reasons for the Sugarland concert running in conjunction with the spring football game are:
(1) To attract some new fans to our program, especially those who like Sugarland (one of most popular country groups out there). If we get 5,000-10,000 new folks to attend the event that have not been fans before that's 5,000 plus potential new tickets buyers.
(2) Give the students a high-end music concert for BDW that is very inexpensive (most of the concert tickets I buy cost upwards of $75-$100 a piece)
(3) Along with the cookouts, softball game, baseball game, spring game, and concert, it provides folks with a great full day from early to late to be around other State folks and experience our beautiful campus
Just my ideas, Scott Stricklin could probably do a better job at explaining the univerisity's reason for the concert.
