I may be the only one but the safety position scares me to death. IMO we only have 1 proven safety. Ive never been sold on Jay Hughes and Louis Watson even as backups. Tony Conner come on down.
Dee Arrington got some playing time last year, Watson can hold his own, Antone and Redmond are both good enough they might see PT this year. Market and Calhoun might be able to play safety as well.
Regardless, it's gonna be hard replacing a guy that plays in the NFL now, Mitchell took four years of experience with him.
I still like the idea of Matt Wells at safety. IMO he's too small for a linebacker. I think the staff didnt know how the lbs would turn out last year and asked Wells to beef up. Now the lbs are ok and he's grown to a tweener. I'm just not sold on him at lb and think he would have been great at safety.
Well, we've got Whitley back there and he is really good. I think Arrington is the most talented safety on the roster save Whitley and he's listed 1st string. He is a big hitter and a good athlete. We'll just have to see on his coverage ability. We can always go with Whitley, Slay, Broomfield and Banks if we are struggling against the pass and expect we will do that on clear passing downs.
Only took me 4 days to get contacted by Ole Miss athletic department. I'd say I won the day
