Please kill the"kiss cam", "dance cam" and any other cam

  • and play hype music to keep the crowd pumped up. Those things are great for a four hour baseball game, but not a football game. Heck, most people I've talked to wouldn't care for being singled out by the camera. Last season the jumbotron was utilized very well during the game. This season it seems that it just deflates the crowd. When they fired off "Welcome to the Jungle" in the third quarter of the Arkansas game last season and all the cowbells rang to the beat, that was awesome. More of that please.

  • We do need more music.

But it doesn't have to be instead of the kiss/dance cam. Kiss/dance cam is fun. Especially when it finds the right person/people. Eventually you will know what I mean.

  • It's fun if your winning comfortably, but if that's not the case we need something more aggressive like hardcore rap over replays of the Sidney/Bailey fight.

  • More music and less commercials! I know the jumbotron is probably a big source of revenue, but seriously...

  • I don't know how many commercials were played during the game on the 6 million dollar jumbotron, but they were playing them like we needed the money for a new kidney or something. At Bryant-Deney, they play music and have videos playing that keep the crowd loud and motivated. As soon as we got behind last night, you could've heard a pin drop.

I agree completely.... Last season was way better as far as music being played.

  • I have no problem with the Kiss/Dance Cam during TV Timeouts because the crowd seems to enjoy it...

The problem I do have is that it lasts too long. They cut it off and start up the music about 5 seconds before we restart play.

This is the same issue I have with all of the ads. I know you want to maximize your Ad revenue, but they are squeezing too many in each break. If they would get rid of that last 30 second ad and use that time to play some music to get the crowd back into the game, I think it would make a huge difference...

One Positive from Last Game was that they did not play Papa Roach - "Last Resort". I kept waiting for it in the 4th qtr, but luckily it was not on the playlist this week!!! woot

Papa Roach should never ever be played in that stadium for any reason. I was embarrassed during the LSU game every time that song came on.

  • Since when do people go to a football game to listen to music?

When did people start going to football games to see a fat guy say "Flaaaaaaaavor!"?

The music being blasted throughout the course of an energy-dependent intense competitive sporting event has a huge effect on the overall atmosphere. Let me know if you need me to explain the importance if a high energy atmosphere.

Well, let me explain to you that you are not much of a player and not much of a competitor if you need someone or something to make you give your all when you are playing any sport. Though it has been many years since I played basketball and was an All County player I did not even need people yelling and screaming for me. All I needed was an opponent. That competetive lives on in me today. I take great pride in being the 3 time reigning over 60's 40 yard dash champ at the Ladies Football Clinic. This year I sprained my ankle in a drill prior to the race and had it taped up so I could run. It hurt and swelled like crazy when I took that tape off too. Kids today may be in superior physical condition but they have also been pampered and petted to the point that it doesn't take much to influence their performance. They are times the players need to put as much energy into making as play as they do waving their arms for the crowd to yell. And I do my share or cheering and bell ringing at the proper time.

The fact that they wave their arms and try to pump up the crowd, and the coach asks the fans to come out to the game and make as much noise as they can, should tell you it does matter. The music they played last season helped the crowd stay in the game, and in the mood to make that noise desired by the players and coaches. The "kiss cam, "dance cam" and the many advertisements, not so much.

    biguglyjoe

  • I full well know why the players wave their arms, but also I think there are times when they need to be concentrating on the upcoming play rather than who is cheering.
Guess it is a generational thing. I don't need music to help me stay in the game and I can assure you that the players and coaches would be pleased with the atmosphere if everyone cheered as much as I do. :)

  • Keep up the good work Mary and congrats on your 40 yd dash reign. I mostly run fevers and bath water.

Good lord Mary, I guess there is one in every thread. We get it, but do you not understand the purpose of this thread? Byrne and now Stricklin have put a huge emphasis on the gameday experience and how to make it a great atmosphere for the players and the fans. So that's what people are commenting on. Stricklin and crew have gone way overboard with the commercials and it does effect the atmosphere and to a certain extent, my enjoyment of the game.

    The Cooler

  • My point exactly bigugly and cooler. The music is not for the players. I doubt they're really tuned into it but they do feed off the crowd energy which can be elevated or killed by the music strategy. Plus 17-18 year old recruits love a game atmosphere dominated by commercials and crappy buttrock from the 90's.

    Brew Maroon

  • Anybody have a guess how much revenue the "TV" ads o the generate during a game?

Actually, most of the music played at the game is selected by Coach Mullen. Its part of a playlist that players like. Some (not all) is actually for the players.

98% of what gets played on the jumbotron and when it gets played is scripted.

If you need some "whack" song to get yourself motivated to scream and ring, sorry, you are the problem. Kinda like the guy that has to get drunk to have a good time.

Blaming the jumbotron or something similar for a poor showing is very Nafoom-esque.

    Camoyok

  • apparently you are part of the problem, b/c more times than i could count, during slow boring commercials, the stadium was very quiet, with nobody yelling or bells ringing, which includes yours.

And, like has been said before, Mullen and Strickland have pushed :"atmosphere", and all the commercials take away from that, not add. i understand the need to generate revenue, but not at the expense of keeping the stadium rocking at key times.
