OT: apple tv

I have an iPad and have a dishnetwork app that you use with a sling adapter. I was thinking for tailgating I'd be able to hook my iPad to the tv to watch games. Well, we went out of town last weekend and tried it but it wouldn't work with that app or hbogo. Went to the apple store and they said I need apple tv. Anybody have one? Is it worth it?

Have the service issues been addressed on campus? I know Verizon worked like a champ last year, but ATT was still terrible. If you can't get cell data(or onto the private wireless network), won't you still be out of luck even with a slingplayer?

I have Verizon service on my iPad. You can also get a visitor username/password from MSU.

Granted... but the guest network is overloaded on gamedays.
If you have Verizon, you should be ok I'm pretty sure. I hope AT&T finished their upgrades at the stadium this year so I don't lose data service for 8+ hours in the junction and game

to just answer your question simply. apple TV is awesome
but it wont help you on campus. you have to run your ipad to your apple tv via wifi and therefore it wont help.
to add to that. hbogo still does not work via "airplay" to an apple tv

Not so true about on campus. Just use the 4g mifi from verizon. Works like a charm and your able to have it at the tailgate.

The cellular congestion at football games is horrendous, no matter the carrier. I don't see how any of this stuff really works on gameday. Also, all the wifi networks are plugged too.

thats what i meant.
i cannot see there being sufficient cell signal to run a mifi and stream tv when its hard as hell to place a call

If im understanding you, your issue is that you can play it on the Ipad but not on the TV. If that's the case, jailbreak your Ipad and download DisplayOut and connect to the TV via a HDMI connector. DisplayOut overrides the restriction that wont let you play certain apps like HBOtoGo to your flat screen. Jailbreaking is very easy and harmless. They dont have one for 6.0. Im not sure if thats out yet but if it is you will have to wait on that, but if its anything less, i can shoot you a simple link to do it download the software to do it
