OT: Hit and Run

  • I was just involved in a hit and run and all I have from the person is a fake phone number and a license plate. I told her I was about to call the police and file a report and she got in her car and drove off. Do anybody know of a way to look up her license plate. I gave the info to the police but he said he can't promise anything. Just curious and any help would be appreciated.

  • The police can look it up I dont care what the officer told you. If not, a lawyer can help

  • The police just isnt up for doing much "investigating" these days. My friend had her Camaro stock wheels stolen over the Christmas holidays. She filed a report. 2 days later she found someone selling her wheels on Craigslist in the area. She called the police again and they said the officer in charge of your case if off for the holidays. Call back Tuesday. This was a Saturday. She has a friend call and act like he wants to buy the wheels and gets the contact info before the guy deletes the post or sells them. Calls back Tuesday and gives all the info to the police. Nothing is done. Thats just sorry as hell. If it had been a family member, we would have just went and got the wheels by ourselves.

Something very similar happened with my uncle here in hattiesbug, except it was some lawn equipment for his business. He and my cousins were able to run down where the guys were last seen (pawn shop). Gave over the info and nada.As a matter of fact they acted like he did something wrong.

These theives also hit another guy my uncle knew tha's also in the business.

It came very close to shutting down his business. They took blowers, chainsaws and weedeaters. All in all about 3,000 worth of stuff. During a bad time when he was about out of money.

The only good thing is, the mowers were spared. That would have run to about $22,000 just to replace them.

Thanks to everyone who posted. But I live in Bossier City, louisiana and I just don't trust the cops here honestly. But I'm gonna go to the station tomorrow and hope for the best

  • Good luck man. Damn shame the police are easy to right a ticket for expired tag, light out, or something that has no real effect on others but can't seem to "serve and protect" the good, honest, and hard working people when they are robbed or taken advantage of. I recently had a truck breaking down and was pulling over the same time a cop blue lighted me. He wrote me a ticket for an expired tag (one month over) and left me stranded on the side of the road. Real role model and tells me a lot about our fair capital. I can accept the ticket but no offer to help or give me a ride is the same as robbing me of 200 dollars and leaving me with nothing. Not a big fan of certain law enforcement agencies.

Everyone is required to carry uninsured motorist insurance in LA and MS I THINK. If you file everything with your insurance provider, they will go after (or hire an attorney) the person who hit you as it is in their best interested to get compensation. Also, you can provide your insurance company with the information (license plate #, etc.) you have to aid in the investigation.

  • I've got a data mine that I can run the plate. PM me the number and the state and I'll see what comes up.

Hopefully they will help, its their job, and that information is pretty readily available. If the first officer you speak to isnt helpful, just keep going up the chain of command, if you reach the top, and they are still sorry, go find a young hungry reporter.........
