MSU athletics receives more than 32 million in gifts in 2011-12

  • Per MSU Media Relations

STARKVILLE, Miss. - The Mississippi State athletic department received a total of more than $32 million in gifts and pledges through the Bulldog Club during the 2011-12 fiscal year, Mississippi State director of athletics Scott Stricklin announced Thursday.

This fundraising achievement includes all outright gifts as well as multi-year pledges to the Bulldog Club and its "Today.Tomorrow.Forever" athletic facilities initiative. The total also includes giving associated with seating at Davis Wade Stadium and Humphrey Coliseum.

The $32 million figure marks the second-straight year over $30 million, the only two years in school history over the $20 million mark. Athletic fundraising has risen from $9.2 million in 2007 to $11.6 million in 2008 to $14.9 million in 2009 to $17.4 in 2010. Last year's total of $37.6 included more than $20 million raised for the construction of the Leo Seal, Jr. Football Complex.

"These outstanding numbers are a direct result of the commitment and passion the people of our state have for their university and our athletic department," Stricklin said. "We're thankful to the many who have shown their support through their generosity and we're appreciative of their continued efforts as we continue to provide opportunities and experiences for our student-athletes, fans and alumni."

On Monday, the Mississippi State Foundation announced a record-breaking year of fundraising for the university as a whole, collecting more than $86 million in private gifts.

  • I think it shows that this level of giving is sustainable for us ($30 mil plus). This is ABSOLUTELY playing with the big boys. Numbers from 06-07(haven't found current numbers) for comparison...

    Alabama $22,397,071
    Arkansas $11,500,000
    Auburn $23,339,000
    Florida $37,400,000
    Georgia $36,600,000
    Kentucky $13,200,000
    LSU $35,000,000
    Ole Miss $13,200,000
    MSU $6,800,000
    USCe $28,200,000
    Tenn $35,800,000
    Vanderbilt $5,309,000

Another interesting report, considering we actually raised $37.6mil last year. If the #s from other schools are correct, we actually were 3rd in the conference in private giving last year(who knows with the different methods of accounting that everyone does).

  • The growth also has alot to do with MSU raising per seat requirement donations also. Not that alot of us wouldn't be happy to up the ante, but they left little room to willfully do it over the last couple years.

That's always going to be a part of any successful fundraising campaign, IMO...

As long as the stadium stays full, and season tickets sale out, they can continue to jack up prices, and I hope they do! This is a big advantage of keeping the stadium a bit smaller than demand...JMO

  • Since they used up 1,100 of the 1,600 names on the waiting list this season and we're looking to add 6-7k seats in two years, I'm thinking they can't do that big of an increase again for quite some time....at least without some sort of legendary season.

I wouldnt count on an increase this fall. The think about the new 6-7k seats is they will be in tge upper tier of cost per seat anyway. There will be trickle down from lower tier priced seats to better seats plus club level etc.

Now if we win 10 games and bdc memberships see another huge spike, that could change.
