I think it's a good move.....it's just to hard to make a long term commitment at Arky (no pun intended) at this time of year....They should do something like this and wait until after the season so they can conduct a full search....

They may slip some next year but they are probably doing the right thing long term. The only problematic thing I could see is if they won the west and it was almost impossible to not make John L the fulltime HC which I dont think would be good long term for them

how do you recruit players with an interim head coach? basically your recruiting players to play for someone else. That would be hard

the other staff will handle the recruiting i would imagine.... i think Smith is just going to be coach in title only

That's a good question. If you put someone on staff as interim head coach then he is probably kept on the next staff & it helps with recruiting continuity. Sort of like Ohio St. did.
