Firing assistant coaches

  • From what Paul and Seven said in another thread, it looks like Stans will be given another chance if some changes are made. Is firing the assistant coaches really the answer? From what everyone can gather, the assistants roles are very limited and Stans micro-manages everything. What halfway decent assistant is going to come to Miss St where they know another bad year and they will be looking for another job? This is not the answer and going to be very disappointed if this is all that happens.

  • No, it's not nearly enough. Not only does it show Stricklin's lack of balls, it proves that he is ill equipped to be our AD. Don't get me wrong, I think he's done a great job thus far, but this kind of move would be a huge mistake. Think of it this way, is a move like this more LT or more Byrne?

  • A lame duck coach, bringing in lame duck assistants. He's being given another year to drive the program he built up, further into the ground. He peaked in 04 and has been going downhill since. The game is passing him by, and he is clueless when it comes to handling the me first generation. Not saying I would do any better, but I'm not being paid 7 figures to figure it out.

  • If you think about a few coaches that had to change out their assistants because they were forced to do, the next year the coach was fired or forced to resign.

If we have a head coach that does not listen or change his ways, I agree that this will be a topic of discussion next year. Also, our Athletic Director will be also on shaky grounds if he starts to become a LT. And he will start becoming one if the fans stay away from the Hump and he has to start cutting the budget.

No more LTs. We can't go backwards. Scott has to address the issue.

  • I don't like the situation, but if it is what it is, I'd like to see:
    1. An X's and O's assistant, a la Stan Jones.
    2. A young up-and-comer with a reputation for recruiting.
    3. Changes in S&C (I would take actually letting Coach Akins do his job, although it may be too late for that).

Getting #2 in particular would probably require a lot of money given the whole lame-duck thing.

  • Like I said before if Strick doesn't make the right move here its one of the worst decisions in MSU history.

We all like to call OM a "dumpser fire" what the hell do you think we look like right now. At least OM makes changes when there is a GLARING problem.

Our collapse has got to be one of the worst in college basketball history. We were ranked 15th a month ago and we are now the 4th seed in the NIT, meaning we went from the 15th team to the 80th in ab 5-6 weeks. Every team that was ranked in the top 25 when we were 15th is in the NCAA tournament.

Let all that sink in for a little while.

Scott Stricklin meets with each coach after the conclusion of the season to evaluate their program. Therefore, there has been no discussion and no formulation of of a future plan between Stricklin and Stansbury.

"What everyone gathers" and the actual situation with some of the assistants is the direct opposite of what is being speculated. Stansbury does not micro-manage enough and has let some assistant coaches get by without maximum effort. This needs to be corrected and some more discipline oriented assistants need to be found. Assistant coaches with ambition are eager to join a major program because they believe that they have the ability to positively influence any program and advance their resume.

I am not willing to declare from long distance that I know the answer. I will abide by what Stansbury and Stricklin come up with.
