About 10 minutes away from starting here at the Seal Complex.
Sounds like spring ball may start today instead of Thursday. That will be one of the first questions.
Mullen has arrived and said the plan is to practice today cause tomorrow not expected to be as good of weather. Said lone chance is if gets gusty winds today then wont but likely to open practice today.
Said excited to get back on field and like the way his team has trained this offseason.
Likes the spring setup as far as spreading out three practices every week so they are able to teach more early in spring with less back to back practices.
Expects everybody to make a jump and with just 11 seniors, said those seniors make the least jump cause already developed with their bodies. Said a lot of change mentally and physically with rest of the team. Said there are a lot of opportunities for younger guys, showed all the stats with touchdowns, ints, tackles, etc missing off last year's team that have graduated now.
Said this is a big year for Preston Smith and will be breaking the huddle with the 1's. But they will rotate guys at each position to give guys experience with the 1's. Said will mix and match Oline combination at times and have 4 1/2 starters back on the oline with Justin Malone being the part-time starter back.
Noted again that Christian Holmes continues as a tight end this spring. Said more of the tight ends being used so need more depth this year. Said be some injuries to keep guys out this spring like Nick Griffin, Taveze Calhoun at corner (didnt say his injury) and Dak Prescott.
Said Prescott will be able to do some 1-on-1 stuff and 7-on-7 throwing drills. On Tobias Smith, he wont practice this spring but more into coaching this spring with the oline. Said no final decision made on whether or not Smith plays in 2013 and wont know until closer to summer time.
Signing Day... "...I have no plans other than punching every Ole Piss fan that crosses my path and says something smartass." pdub0351
Said big spring for Robert Johnson and Joe Morrow and have been prepped to be the guys and step up this spring. Said they are the future now and have to perform.
Mentioned Jiles, Justin Cox, Zach Jackson as guys needed to be 'the guys' now and have their chance.
Said Billy Gonzales knows the offense already to a point and what is expected and been an easy transition. Same with David Turner on defense and said Deshea Townsend excited to get back on the field coaching.
On Sallach's former off-the-field position, said it might be filled by one or two or three people and based on what best fits their needs. Now into spring, want to see what direction to go in that recruiting role and depends on how the NCAA rules play out.
Said with Townsend being new, likes the fact every cornerback returning starts with new slate and no depth chart there. Gets to see who performs and said Love the lone one with any real experience back there. Said Townsend gets to laid down his foundation early and get all his guys used to it right off the bat.

On the dline, said Eulls, Jones and Virges got to grow up behind other leads like Cox and Boyd and got to be the followers. Now they have to be the pace setters and same with Denico Autry and Preston Smith on the outside. Said it takes some transition being worried about being a starters and also being leaders.
Said started this spring meeting with younger guys about opp to get on the field, moreso than any spring he's had at MSU. Said opportunities for guys to step onto the oline and in secondary and on defense with guys that redshirted. Said be a lot of fun this spring seeing those guys get opportunities. On special teams, too, with MSU losing Bump and Banks. Said it is a brawl right now to get on special teams, Said Deontae Skinner been on punt team for three straight years and doesnt want to lose that role.
Said Cox would start out working at cornerback but obviously a dynamic player at safety in juco. Noted Jay Hughes is a guy who can play corner and safety much like Calhoun and likes that flexibility of having guys that can do both.
He expects to have a lot of questions answered this spring with the younger guys and those battles but no decision made until the fall.
