DWS Jumbotron

    You know how you really make money? Keep the stadium full and make sure people are excited about being at DWS for 4 quarters of football. The world's largest talking billboard has diminshed the gameday experience for me.

    You can't be serious. Did you really just say that the jumbotron has made games less enjoyable for you?

    PLEASE STAY AT HOME.

  • Physics of football was good for a time. It was interesting and educational. But it has run its course. We need to let it go.

    I like the kiss cam. But we don't have to do it every game.

    And yes, TSUN has modeled the way the jumbotron should be used. Between that and their weekly football show, The Season, they are whipping our butt in multimedia.

  • I would like to personally say THANKS to all the sponsors who give money to the program and BUY the ads on the Jumbotron. Keep giving to the university regardless what a small group of know-it-alls think about your ads on the Jumbotron. If you come to the games and depend on the Jumbotron to keep you excited about the game, you need to stay in your recliner at home. Bitch, bitch, bitch and bitch. Kinda like a group of 7th grade girls.

    So concur on sponsors. But they are atmosphere drains now.

    Audio got better last year at one point, not great.

    But it has been used right with crowd pumping music a few times. The idea is to advertise but keep the enthusiasm an atmosphere stoked.

    Maybe the sponsors need to find ways to create MSU game themed commercial with rocking music to keep the crowd pumped, not a TV commercial.

    There was several times last year that things were good and the crowd was pumped, and then the onslaught of commercials began during TV Timeouts etc... The music is an after thought which makes atmosphere seem an after thought.

    It needs to be improved or changed. When the crowd is into it, Cowbells clanging to the beat, and people focused on the game it is unreal. We don't need to get excited and then iced.

  • The real point of the matter is, we as State fans are a piss poor home crowd. People get mad when you stand up, people get bored very quickly, as soon as the other team scores, we sit down and shut up. And I'm going to blame it on something that I love dearly, the cowbell. No one knows how to yell, and we are reliant on the cowbell to provide our stadium noise. And now, we are handcuffed by that stupid sign on the jumbotron with the cowbell crossed out. If you are having to be reminded to yell, you suck. We should take a few notes from aTm. Their crowd atmosphere is ridiculous. Do they have an ubertron? Not even close to ours. And I'll bet you they could care less what plays on theirs, because they are focused on the game at hand. We have no good chants besides "Go State". If we need to steal some chants, fine, but until we improve our atmosphere ourselves, we will depend on the jumbotron to keep us motivated.

  • I think State does the jumbotron better than anyone. DWS didn't become electric until this board was installed. It did have a good tradition feel and loyal and loud home crowd, but the new jumbotron elevated the atmosphere. They do still play alot of lame commercials, but there is more of an effort to make their commercializing more interactive. Like the kiss cam is sponsored by that dental group or CSpire does the game day fan pictures. Businesses like that and things like the Farm Bureau commercials are what the athletic department are trying to move continually towards. So I feel like they are listening to us while still trying to generate needed revenue.

    The graphics and the music are pretty good. I know we make alot of adjustments to distorted, jumbled, too loud or too soft sound coming from I would say one of the best sound systems in the nation in CFB. I imagine it's just difficult to make everything sound right. But the music in sync with cowbells is pretty awesome, something that didn't happen til the entertainment center arrived.
