Banks and Green Earn National Honors

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State All-American defensive back
Johnthan Banks was named to the Paul Hornung Award Weekly Honor Roll
Monday for the second time this season, while fellow senior Marcus Green
was named to the midseason watch list for the John Mackey Award, given
annually to the best collegiate tight end.

One of three players to earn the weekly nod, Banks picked up the honor
after limiting a Tennessee passing attack that was averaging 329 yards
per game (10th in FBS) to just 148 yards Saturday night in the 41-31
victory. The Maben, Miss., native held midseason All-American wide
receiver Justin Hunter to just two catches, while helping limit Vols’
quarterback Tyler Bray to a career lows as a starter in completions (13)
and yards. The team captain was thrown at five times, allowing just two
    catches for 28 yards.

Clinging to a three-point lead with less than 10 minutes left in the
game against the Big Orange and MSU’s undefeated season on the line,
Banks forced and recovered a fumble that completely changed the momentum
of the game and secured MSU’s sixth victory of the 2012 campaign.

Green was one of just 26 players on the midseason watch list, which will
select semifinalists on Nov. 12. The Scooba, Miss., native recorded a
career game vs. Tennessee in which he recorded a career-high six catches
for 71 yards with a career-best tying two touchdowns.

Banks, Green and the rest of the undefeated No. 15 Bulldogs return to
action Saturday night at Davis Wade Stadium for homecoming against the
Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. CT and will
be broadcast on ESPN2 and the Mississippi State Radio Network.
