in the Gator Bowl, I see 8 NFL players out of our starting 22.
1. Fletcher Cox
2. Derrick Sherrod
3. KJ Wright
4. Vick Ballard
5. Chris White
6. Pernell McPhee
7. Jon Banks
8. Josh Boyd
We also had 2 All-SEC caliber players on that roster in Charles Mitchell and Chad Bumphis though Bumphis didn't play in the bowl game. I'm not going to say we underacheived due to our 9-4 record and the teams we lost to, but it's not the great coaching job I thought it was as the time. A lot of talent on that squad.

You listed KJ Wright twice
A good friend will come and bail you out of jail...but, a true friend
will be sitting next to you saying, "Damn...that was fun!"
No a valid point unless you also list the number of NFL guys from Bama, LSU, Arky and Auburn teams we lost to that year. Think you will see we proabably shouldn't have won any of those games.
U left off Pernell McPhee ..u don't think coaching got these kids to the next level tho?
Coaching always plays a part. But I think Fletcher Cox is a 1st round pick no matter where he goes. Look at Manny Diaz. 1 year at MSU and everyone called him a prodigy. I'm including myself in this, I loved him. Looking back, he had 6 NFL starters + 3 seniors (Mitchell, Wilson, Ferguson) and healthy Nickoe Whitley on his starting defense. He goes to Texas and all of the sudden he's not so great anymore. He probably would have been fired had Texas lost their bowl game.
No surprises there, we had a below avg QB. We did real good to be 9-4. imo
Guess Croom left the cupboard stocked pretty well didn't he.
Imagine how awesome we would've been that year if croom had stayed an additional two years. Mullen is holding us back.
he really did.
So you don't give the coaches credit for getting those guys on campus? In the cases of Ballard, White, and Banks - not many or no other offers...
Sure, though Banks and White were already committed to Croom.
And Ballard - FYI.
Mullen kept them, though.
Am I reading this thread right? We went from 3 wins to 5 to 9 but it wasn't a good coaching job? Its one thing to say some silly stuff but. Its another thing to go dig in the archives to say some stilly stuff.
"They call me crazy until they find out I'm right"
No, you're not really reading it right. Maybe you can read it again and figure it out. You seem to be a fairly intelligent guy.
Here, I'll summarize. When we went 9-4 and smoked Michigan in the Gator Bowl, I thought Mullen and Diaz were unbelievable coaches. Looking back, we had an amazing 10 NFL players out of 22 starters. So it was a combo of good coaching with as much talent as we have ever had at MSU.
This past year, less talent and we got blown out in 5 of our last 6. The year before, we struggled to make the Music City. We are heading to a 2013 season where 5 wins is going to be hard to come by. If Mullen can win 7 this year, I will never complain about him again.
Gabe Jackson too, no?
