He is out 6 weeks with a fractured wrist. Ouch
Good Lord, terrible luck on injuries is an understatement of the yr.
thanks for the update but hate to hear the news.
Expect more of a healthy dose of Baxter Price.
Yancy is like kudzu. You hate it, can't kill it, and is virtually worthless!
Sad to hear fans dont even want to watch and support a team that gives it all they can. It was fun and entertaining to watch that bunch play last night. And southms, not likely. Sword will now start at the two and Tyson Cunningham is the backup.
Agree Paul...this team is going to be a lot of fun to watch and they will win a few games they shouldn't. If I was only going to cheer for the team when they were winning I'd go to the local Walmart and pick up an Alabama t shirt.
Making sure I got my numbers right, is that 7 scholarship players for the next 6 weeks?
*Please remember that this time of the year there's a lot of misinfo(even from me) so please dont believe everything you read*-Yancy Porter
I hope Roy Williams has some compassion in his heart next week.
Doesn't matter if he does or not to be honest. This year should be treated by all fans as just a glorified scrimmage in preparation for next year. If you get mad or upset that this team gets blown out or can't find many wins then I don't know what to tell you. This season is nothing more than a time to build experience and chemistry to apply toward next season where MSU has a much more legit shot to compete once injured players get back and Ray has another recruiting class to work with. No coach should ever have to go through what Ray is going through this year unless they are on major NCAA sanctions.
Rick Ray already had a 2 year pass from me, just because of what he inherited.
We now have relentless effort and discipline in our basketball program, something that's been missing for a decade or more.
I won't have to listen to all the garbage from announcers about discipline issues, lack of effort, drama and all that other stuff any more.
I dont expect MSU to beat North Carolina and comparing games between opponents is nearly worthless in hoops. But UNC led Florida Atlanta by eight at halftime and MSU led them by 17. I know this team will have its hard times but I also dont expect them to be intimidated.
Ray has some nice pieces to work with in the future. If he can get one more signing class in then he will have a solid foundation moving forward. Year 2 should be much better and I expect Year 3 to be the year we start seeing some really good basketball again.
And then you'll start back watching?
I think he does it be Year 2. I mean, counting what will sign this week look at this depth chart for next year:
PG: Ready, Bloodman or Davis
SG: Steele, Sword and Applewhite
SF: Fred Thomas and Travis Daniels
PF: Quantel Denson, Colin Bochert and Roquez Johnson
C: Gavin Ware and Fallou Ndoye
I will watch this year but not as closely as in the last few years. I am not going to sit on the edge of my seat for every game this year when the outcome is pretty well known what will happen. Everyone knows what Ray is up against and the key is to practice hard, play hard, and get better until some people get healed and more help can arrive next year. Year 2 and Year 3 should be much better. I just hope fans don't get unrealistic expectations for this team this year. It isn't Ray's fault.
Never have I seen a situation like this with injuries compounding a coaching change and preseason disciplinary purge. Ray gets a 2 year pas MINIMUM with this. I'm an impatient person, no question about it, but no one has the right to make any demands of Ray . . . unless, of course, his best recruits is Baxter Price-quality, which he has shown is not a concern.
Tough luck for Ray but I think he can get more out of less.
Can you imagine Stands coaching this team with 7 scholly players and not much talent to speak of. Trrble
I agree. I think Year 3 is the year anyone can start evaluating Ray's performance. No coach in America would come to MSU if you fired Ray after 2 years with him inheriting the situation he did. I am shocked he even agreed to take the situation and I admire him for that.
I was looking at that last night. The added depth will be good and will allow us to be a lot more competitive. We'll be more talented and experienced also.
This year can be seen as Rick Ray laying the foundation for the type of team he wants. If he can keep the guys playing like they played last night - win or lose - I think that will bode well for the future.
"From the moment they wake, they devote themselves to the perfection of whatever they pursue."
I would much rather watch this young group of guys run the floor and play with passion and emotion and live with their mistakes then watch the teams we've seen the past couple of years. They will only get better and it will be fun to see them grow.
