Another fantastic clinic. Over 200 ladies talking at length to any or all of the coaches, getting autographs from the coaches and 20 football players, meeting new people, door prizes, football information, delicious lunch, touring the facilities, learning some football technique, competitions, doing the "Dawg Walk", running onto the field at Davis Wade and watching video highlights. What more could a "girl" want? Well, I wanted a little more and got it. Maroon Mary is now the 4 time reigning Smoke House, 40 yard dash, champion for the 60 and over age group. Winning again got me pre-game on the field sidline passes for a game this season. YEA! I must say that all the coaches were pulling for me to win again and cheering me on as was Coach Sharon Fanning who attended the clinic this year. I told Coach Mullen that my win meant another win for the Dawgs against TSUN.
The "pushup" champ is who is really to be commended though. Mary Pat Templeton who is 60 won the championship. I don't know how many she did but it was a lot; She didn't know either. Anyway, I told her that she had to work for hers that I just used my God given talent.
Per Coach Knox in the Offensive Overview we will be using a huddle this year. He was funny (actually throughout his presentation)saying that is when all the players get in a circle. Said Center and QB were the most intelligent men on the team so any of the women married to these former players were married to the most intelligent men. Talked about the fact that we averaged 5.8 yards per carry last year.
Coach Smith giving the Defensive Overview said that Coach Knox was a hard act to follow.
Said Center had the hardest job having to tell everyone what to do, snap the ball, and block.
He talked more about the MSU Core Values and what it takes for great defense.
Coach Balis talked about the fact it more how you do things than what you do. Also said that players got halftime snacks. I never knew that. Said one of the things they eat is "gummy bears" as well as fruit, protein bars and gatorade.
Balis also said that the players favorite thing was not to go to class or condition, but to play football and to be a good football player, "It all starts here".
Someone asked if it were true that Coach Mullen would take the job at MSU only if he came too. He didn't answer directly but said it was great to work with someone that shared the same philosophy. Proper conditioning was a huge part of the pie.
I asked Coach Mullen how many autographs did he figure he had signed since being at MSU. He said that he thought everyone in MS had one. I said the TSUN fans didn't, but I had enough to cover for them. He laughed.
Megan Mullen is the one that organizes the Clinic now and she does a super job. Both children were there for awhile. That baby girl was wearing a cute MSU outfit.
Next year the Clinic will be held in the new football facility so we will all get a good look at it then. Guys you should all treat your wives to the Clinic next year. I don't see how anyone that is an MSU fan could not enjoy it.
Sorry if I ran overtime and excuse any mistakes. I will try to post a few pictures later. Late and lots to do.
Very cool. I got to get my wife to this. I've always wondered what the camp consisted of.
Thanks for the report Mary. It sounds like y'all had a blast! Congrats on the win too.
